About the Artist: Phleat Boyd was known for his detailed etchings and drawings of his home state of Oklahoma. Boyd's body of work usually portrays scenes of country life, ranch life, animals, or Oklahoma scenes such as oil rigs or country barns.

About the Etching Process: Etching is a method of making prints from a metal plate, usually copper, into which the design has been incised by acid. The copperplate is first coated with an acid-resistant substance, called the etching ground, through which the design is drawn with a sharp tool. The artist can print the entire edition his or herself or have a professional printer do them all at once as to keep the overall consistency in each piece.  Each etching is then hand colored.
